This is a subject that comes up all the time, some couples have their hearts set on a certain song and other couples don’t really mind what their first dance is, some want it played on CD and some couples really want us to play it live, we always want to play it live and will 100% do our utmost to learn it for you.
That being said, first dance songs have changed over the years, for instance back in the early 2000’s artists like “Bryan Adams” and “Wet Wet Wet” were all the go, with a mix of “Frank Sinatra” and “Nat king Cole” also very popular choices. Fast forward to the last 5 or 6 years and Frank Sinatra has been replaced my “Michael Buble” and “Wet Wet Wet” by "Ed Sheeran".
So the purpose of this blog is to give you a comprehensive list of songs that are popular right now and some of the ones we would recommend, so in no particular order here are 2016’s top first dance song choices by our Brides and Grooms. Please add to the list if you feel like it by leaving a comment at the end...
How can we start anywhere else other than Ed Sheeran, definitely the most popular song for the last 18 months is of course "Thinking out loud" and just in case you have been living on the moon here it is.
Jason Mraz "I won't give up" is a really great choice, a great tune.
another big one this year has been the Irish lads from Kodaline with their song "The One"
A song we haven't played yet but is coming up 3 times by the end of this year is another Irish band with a bit more up tempo song, Picture This and their song "hold my hand"
Ellie Goulding and "How long will I long you"
Very popular this year is "James Morrison" with "I won't let you go, there are a couple of other songs he has also so check him out.
Paolo Nutini is also really popular, this is the song by him we get asked for the most
Ok, so this is a song we only played once, but we really liked it, by "Vance Joy" called "the Fire and the Flood"
Of course Ray LaMontagne with "you're the best thing"
So the classics come out all the time, this is a great song by "Train" with "Drops of Jupiter"
Always asked to play this song for as long as the band has been together, another Irish classic by "the Golden Horde" and "Friends in Time"
Irish bands are really popular, "The Coronas" with "Warm" how can you not like this song!!
No explanation needed for this one... Christy.
"All of me" by John Legend
a really popular choice is "ho hey" by the Lumineers
So many Beatles songs we could choose here, but here's one we picked. "Something"
if you like Johnny Cash this is an unreal song. "Rose of my heart"
How about this one, "you and me" by Lifehouse
Elbow "One day like this" is a great choice for a first dance
So there you go, of course we have the classics that will never go out of fashion, and maybe next year we can add to the list, I'm sure Ed Sheeran will have another couple of tunes by then.
